About the Master of IT in Business (MITB)
We are in an era of disruption where technology has levelled the playing field in some areas and created unfair advantages in others. This places an increasing demand on business leaders to lead with the relevant know-how. Drawing from thought leadership in the ambits of data analytics, technological platforms and business strategies, the Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme delves into five specialisation tracks: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science & Analytics, Digital Transformation and Financial Technology & Analytics. Each of these tracks uniquely equips you to lead competently and decisively.

Topic: Beyond the AI Hype: Why Data Science Still Matters
Synopsis: 
This masterclass looks beyond the AI hype to examine why data science remains a key foundation of data-driven work today. While AI systems promise automation and intelligence, their effectiveness depends on sound data practices and statistical reasoning. Drawing on real-world examples, the session illustrates what data science work typically involves—from problem framing and data preparation to evaluation and communication of insights. Participants will gain a practical understanding of how data science supports modern analytics and AI-enabled roles, and why these skills remain relevant across industries.
